2 Chapter 8 – Lesson 2 The Church relies on the word of God. Testament: another word for covenant ~Old Testament is accepted as part of the Christian Bible ~46 Old Testament books that are still used today ~recalls God’s relationship with people of Israel

3 Chapter 8 – Lesson 2 Entire Bible is a collection of books about God’s covenant. Old Covenant : an agreement that God made with the people of Israel New Covenant: agreement brought to fulfillment in Jesus; New Testament – a collection of 27 books Canon: official list Early Christians compiled 1st written list of New Testament books. Saint Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, Egypt wrote the first list of the New Testament books.

4 Chapter 8 – Lesson 2 Example: Book of Revelation ~ written to give hope to early Christians facing persecution; encourages all Christians not to lose hope in God’s goodness.
