The Durnford Map What does this map have in common with modern maps you have seen? It what ways is the map unique? Similarities: It has a key. It uses symbols Differences: North is on the right side of the map. Tree density is shown. Slopes are sketched with hachuring. Hachures /ˈhæʃʊərz/ are an older mode of representing relief. They show orientation of slope, and by their thickness and overall density they provide a general sense of steepness.
