3 Course Contents Introduction to the theory and practice of user centred design A particular focus on Web design Methods to elicit user requirements Evaluate usability Focus on user involvement. Practical usability Interactive applications for the web

4 Course Contents Designing to meet requirements Techniques such as:
Interviews Observation Participatory design techniques Evaluating system usability.  A box of tools that you can use in many situations "Which of the UCDW tools can I best use to solve this?"

5 Learning Outcomes Demonstrate an appreciation of the nature and character of user requirements. Demonstrate an understanding of the range of methods available to elicit and model requirements. Undertake user-centred usability evaluation in a theoretically informed manner. Plan, design and evaluate a website. Demonstrate competence in the use of authoring tools.

6 Assessments Module assessed by coursework only. (No exams)
Two pieces of coursework, one building on the other. Deadlines are usually around weeks 9 and 13. Involve steps involved in building and evaluating a web site.

7 Comments on Coursework
The coursework takes time. Try to start it well in advance. Some parts of the coursework will require getting the help of other class members. This will take time for you to arrange. Try and help each other. Hand in your work – most people who hand in their work, pass.

8 Teaching Pattern Weekly class contact: Two hour lecture
One hour tutorial One hour laboratory practical. Expect to spend twelve additional hours a week (about 1½ working days) in independent and directed study.

10 A Policy of Constant Improvement
If you can think of a way to improve the module, even in a little way, I want to hear from you. Any ideas which might benefit the students this year or next year will be welcome.
