You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
Psalm 32:7 You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

Psalm 40 Prophecy in Psalms
This psalm is difficutl because it is not entirely clear why David kept silent, why that was the work of God (vs. 9) and what sin was present. We will proceed with the assumption from vs. 2 that David was silent when he should have spoken, and this caused Gods wrath Psalm 40
4
David’s Story In a “horrible pit” Brought out of it Set on the rock Given a song
5
David’s Story David acknowledges God’s mercy: Was not because of sacrifices It was because of his heart POINT: Our sacrifices reflect our heart A bad heart = worthless sacrifices
6
David’s Story David’s proper response 1) To tell others of the good news 2) To plead for more mercy
7
Considering Prophecy David’s words were Jesus’ words Hebrews 10:5-10
NASB – COMES into the the World He SAYS…… When He came through David? When He became flesh? The Ever Present Tense God!
8
Considering Prophecy David’s words were Jesus’ words Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me.“ Hebrews 10:5 NASB – COMES into the the World He SAYS…… When He came through David? When He became flesh? The Ever Present Tense God!
9
Considering Prophecy The Hebrew writer explains: Then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. Hebrews 10:9 The Hebrew writer clarified what David meant David’;s message was NOT intuitive

Considering Prophecy Thematic about prophecy Prophecy is NOT interpreted easily Acts 8:30-35 Ac 8:30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" 31 And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. Isa 53:7-8 33 In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth." 34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?" 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.

Considering Prophecy Thematic about prophecy Prophecy is NOT interpreted easily It required an inspired interpreter A “gift” of interpretation I Corinthians 13:2, 14:6 1Co 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, 1Co 14:6 ¶ But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?
12
Considering Prophecy Importance of prophetic views Many have been misled by false interpretations of prophecy False understandings of Matthew 24 False understandings of Revelation N.T. prophecies are self-explanatory Matt 24 – men say that while it can refer to destruction of Jerusalem it ALSO refers to …… Revelation – creating ideas as to what it ALSO refers to
13
Considering Prophecy Importance of prophetic views - Many have been misled by false interpretations of prophecy - The OT prophecies are fulfilled in Christ Luke 18:31, 24:44 Lu 18:31 ¶ Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. Lu 24:44 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."
14
Considering Prophecy When we view prophecy today: We need Scriptures to interpret them We need to be careful understanding Lu 18:31 ¶ Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. Lu 24:44 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."
15
Considering Prophecy Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other Corinthians 4:6 Lu 18:31 ¶ Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. Lu 24:44 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."
