4 Many people remember us as we were in 1968

5 Learning was central to the lives of the reformers

6 Learning is still central in our lives today

7 Our church and community have become diverse
and multi-cultural

8 ALC recognises that it must change with the church

9 ALC’s Strategic Direction 2017-2022 is guided by the principles of ‘learning for life’.
This document is publicly available via the ALC website

10 ALC’s vision is to see God’s love in Christ coming to life through preparing God’s servants – pastors, teachers, church workers and volunteers of all kinds – to serve and lead with confident Christian faith, integrity, competence and compassion in a diverse and changing denomination and world.

12 A new model for the future
Imagine a new ALC that takes seriously: the value of local ministry contexts the integration of technology the importance of formational community the need for academic rigor Traditionally, students are required to complete some sort of supervised ministry, so-called practical units, vicarage and field education, during their education and training journey. Those experiences are very important, but they are often segmented into specific portions of the degree program. The challenge in such an approach is that a local ministry context begins to function as a place to “receive” students who are going to “practice” a specific define set of abilities identified/required by the Church and College. While this approach does value a ministry context, it does not seriously value context. In order to fully value a student’s local ministry context the approach needs to allow the context to shape, assess, inform, and even direct the student journey. In short, the ministry context needs both to be seen and valued as an equal partner, with equal voice, in which students participate in a community of faith / missional context, rather than only practice skills.
