2 Ideas for how to advertise for a parent night
Some ideas about wording. If you advertise it as a Social Media training, then people may think "I already know about Facebook". If you advertise it as a Internet Safety training, then folks may think "I have filters on my computer". I think trying wording such as Social Media and Cell Phone App Trends, or Learning about Teen Technology or Screenagers. Parents do want to learn about phones and apps and ways kids communicate. If they realize that this is what they will learn, then I think they may be more willing to come.  Another idea is to open it to the district not just your school. Parents of younger students are more willing to come. And often they have older kids as well. Middle school parents will come. When schools open the presentation up to the district, I have more attendee's. The ones that did this recently I had 150, 100 and 80ish attendee’s.  Other schools have offered free tickets to sporting events to the parents that came. Some schools have raffled prizes for parents.  Advertise well. Post it on the home page right in the center of your website. Send flyers home with students. Do the text blast or phone call blast. Post it on your announcement board in front of your school.  Use visuals on the flyers. On the one I attached, they used the apps that some parents will recognize but not know anything about it. I wouldn't use random apps because they will not be relevant. Use the ones on the flyer.  Encourage teachers to come. The information I will talk about will absolutely be beneficial for them in class. They need to know this technology as well. Offer act 48 credits to those who come, or an early dismissal at some point. Use radio ads if possible. This has shown in the past to bring a large crowd.

3 Some words for advertising
Blurb for advertising  “If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.” - Albert Einstein Life for a teenager is vastly different than it was ten years ago. Teens and Tweens today have an unlimited access to information, apps and websites that can be wonderfully helpful, but also lead to concerning behaviors if parents and educators don’t have the knowledge to teach young people how to behave responsible in this new cyber-playground. Awareness is the key to learning and learning leads to knowledge. And knowledge is power, so they say. Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.” There are many six year olds out there explaining cyber-devices and cyber-practices to adults. Let me help flip the equation for you. If you saw a text message a teen had sent in cryptic lingo would you know what they were talking about? Do you know of the latest apps/sites such as? Facebook Tumblr Snapchat Instagram Sarhah VSCO Oovoo Omegle Kik Ask.fm “Creating Responsible Kids on Smartphones” This training defines categories of social networking that teacher and parents should be aware of and listening for with their students and children. The presentation will review image boards, untraceable texting/sexting, internet predators, gossip/rumor spreading, video chatting, blogs, eating disorders, self-harm and suicide. The most current social media sites such as Instagram, Sarahah, VSCO, Tumblr, Kik, and Snapchat will be defined and youth culture and mental health practices on these sites/apps will be discussed. This presentation will raise the awareness of teen culture on the internet and how adults can communicate and educate with youth to be responsible digital citizens
