Psalm 107:22 Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

Self - Examination Psalm 7
Psalms – we are studying the Psalms because: 1. We are commanded to sing them; 2. We are commanded to bring them to each other (1 Cor. 14:26); 3. They teach us about the Kingdom (Acts 13:33) Psalm 7

Setting of Psalm 7 Shiggaion – uncertain; a type of music or poem Cush the Benjamite An enemy of David One who made an accusation against David The plural word shigionoth and its singular form, shiggaion, each appear in the Bible once. Habakkuk 3:1 mentions shigionoth, and the title of Psalm 7 mentions the shiggaion. Since no one really knows what the shigionoth or shiggaion is, the translators left the words untranslated, giving transliterations instead. The prophet Habakkuk introduces his closing song this way: “A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet. On shigionoth.” The ESV says, “According to Shigionoth,” instead of “On shigionoth.” The title of Psalm 7 says, “A shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, a Benjamite.” – Got questions

Setting of Psalm 7 Shiggaion – uncertain; a type of music or poem Cush the Benjamite Psalm 7 “if it is true, deal with me; if not, deal with him” The plural word shigionoth and its singular form, shiggaion, each appear in the Bible once.

David is willing to consider that David is willing to be examined
David’s Response Key Point David is willing to consider that the accusation is true. David is willing to be examined and to self-examine If I have done it: Let me be overtaken by my enemies If I have not done this: Let my enemies fall in their own traps In this psalm the eternal king is part of the conversation. He is established by God, and set on the Holy Hill of Zion. The Kingdom too is present, as that which overcomes the nations

Self-Examination Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test? Corinthians 13:5

Self-Examination Looking at myself through the Gospel mirror James 1:23-25 Jas 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

Self-Examination Looking at myself through the Gospel mirror James 1:23-25 Examples 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Galatians 5 1Co 13:4 ¶ Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Self-Examination godly
Considering things people say about me Am I judgmental Do I always need to be right Am I angry or easily upset Do I become overly obsessed on things

Self-Examination Considering things godly people say about me Some things said are generally always true: You hurt my feelings You come across arrogant You are not listening to me Sometimes subjective points are true regardless of our intention because the perception itself is the definition of that point. Accusations of arrogance, inattention or hurtful behavior needs to be seen as true as it is true to the hearer.

Self-Examination How do we improve ourselves? 1. Deciding to change “that is just who I am” is not an answer 2. Listening to input of wise people 1 Corinthians 6:5 1Co 6:5 I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between his brethren,

Returning to Psalm 7 God is not a respecter of persons He will be just to whomever is in error We must make sure we are not in error W
