She was one of the first to champion human and civil rights for all Americans during the Great Depression and the Second World War. After the war, she was the architect of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the decades that followed, her tireless efforts to promote international understanding and human rights earned her worldwide respect and the title “First Lady of the World.”
