Human decidual production of hepatocyte-growth factor is not influenced by trophoblastic invasion in vivo Mei Yee Choy, Ph.D., Shing Shun Nelson Siu, M.R.C.O.G., Tse Ngong Leung, M.D., Tze Kin Lau, M.D. Fertility and Sterility Volume 82, Pages (October 2004) DOI: /j.fertnstert Copyright © 2004 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

FIGURE 1 Real-time ultrasound sampling of site-specific decidua parietalis (DP) and decidua basalis (DB). Real-time ultrasound sampling of DB and DP in a representative patient is shown. Location of DP and DB was identified from the position of the placenta (P). Site-specific tissue was retrieved using a flushing curette (FC) inserted in the appropriate location. Fetus is indicated by (F). Fertility and Sterility , DOI: ( /j.fertnstert ) Copyright © 2004 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

FIGURE 2 Immunohistochemical verification of site-specific decidua parietalis (DP) and decidua basalis (DB). Site-specific decidual samples were verified immunohistochemically using anticytokeratin antibody for the (A) detection of infiltrating trophoblasts in DB and (B) their absence in DP. FIGURE 3 Immunohistochemical analysis of HGF in decidua basalis (DB) and decidua parietalis (DP). The HGF immunopositive cells were found in both DB (see Fig. 2A) and DP (see Fig. 2B). Quantitative analysis (n = 9) between the two sites showed no statistically significant difference. (Magnification ×500.) FIGURE 4 Analysis of hepatocyte-growth factor (HGF) mRNA expression in decidua basalis (DB) and decidua parietalis (DP). A representative sample of HGF mRNA expression in DB (lanes1, 2) and DP (lanes 3,4) is shown. Strong HGF mRNA signals (691 bp) were detected in both DB and DP (lanes 1, 3), but semiquantitative analysis using housekeeping gene β-actin (lanes 2, 4 [348 bp]), showed no statistically significant difference between the two sites (n = 10).
