2 Exam technique week

3 What will we be looking at?
How to evaluate – specifically, what points to use How to structure an answer – specifically, using these points

4 G eneralisable – are the results generalisable? If so, to who? If not, why? eliability – can the study be considered reliable? If so, why? If not, why? What type of reliability? pplication - Can the findings from the study be applied to real life? What was the take away message from the study? (Think of our ‘PALS’ questions) alid – Can the methods used be considered valid? If so, why? If not, why not? What type of validity? thics – are there any ethical guidelines broken? If so, explain what and what influence this has. If not, explain why this is a good thing How to evaluate? R A Using your GRAVE handout, bullet point/mindmap evaluation points one of the following 1. Moray (1959) 2. Simons & Chabris (1999) V E

5 How to structure an answer
Look back at the ‘model’ answers I gave you last lesson What did we think was good?

6 How to structure an answer
Imagine we are trying to say a study lacks mundane realism as a weakness Task: Using four different colours, identify the Point, Explanation, Link and Counter argument (if present) in the answers provided Counter-argument However, despite the study lacking mundane realism, it was carried out in a lab and therefore it has good control, and could be easily repeated. State your point One weakness of the study NAME is that it lacks mundane realism… Explain your point This means that the task is not something you would carry out in everyday life… Link your point For example, it not a usual task to be asked to learn a list of words and then count back in threes… Grade B-A Grade D-C Grade C-B Grade A*

7 Outline one strength of the study Outline one weakness of the study
Stretch and challenge: Using the ‘Nando’s menu’, expand on your already existing evaluations or create a new evaluation paragraph Using your evaluations from the beginning of the lesson, answer the following for your chosen study Outline one strength of the study Outline one weakness of the study Counter-argument(A*) However, despite this ………………………… State your point(D-C) One weakness of the study NAME is that …………… Explain your point(C-B) This means that ………… Link your point(B-A) For example, …………..

8 Lastly… Look at the answer(s) you wrote in the last lesson Using a different coloured pen or highlighter, add in or rewrite the answer using the structure you have just learned
