International Women`s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political achievements of women past, present and future.

International Women`s Day is celebrated on 8 March every year.

In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria International Women`s Day is a holiday.

In Italy and Russia to celebrate the day men give yellow mimosas to women. Women sometimes get gifts from their imployers, too. School children bring gifts for their teachers.

In Portugal groups of women usually celebrate the 8 of March in women-only dinners and parties.

In 1932 the Soviet poster dedicated to the 8 of March holiday. The text read: The 8 of March is the day of rebellion of the working women against kitchen slavery.

In the USSR the holiday had a clear political character emphasizing the role of the Soviet state in the liberation of women.

Suffragettes in England campaigned for women`s rights to vote. The International Women`s Day celebrates women`s success.

International Women`s Day was run in 1911. 2011 is the Global Centenary Year.
