2011-12 Chinese Guest Teacher Program
The Chinese Guest Teacher brings experienced teachers from China to teach Chinese language and culture in K-12 U.S. schools for a period of one to three years. In : Total # of in-service Chinese guest teachers: 176 Total # of states with guest teachers: 33 Total # Host Institutions: 103 (15 private, 88 public)

2011 Guest Teacher Summer Institute
To prepare for their teaching assignments, the teachers attended: A month-long training in Beijing organized by Hanban A 10-day summer institute, funded by STARTALK and hosted at UCLA. Topics covered the structure of U.S. K-12 education, foreign teaching standards, developing a student-centered classroom, assessment, classroom management, and more.

Guest Teacher Program: New Development
The Chinese Guest Teacher Program is being expanded to provide schools with more options, including volunteer teachers to serve as assistants in the classrooms.

2011 Chinese Bridge Delegation
A week-long program for educators building Chinese programs, which allows them to visit schools, learn about China first-hand and gather resources. The 2011delegation will take place November delegates will visit Beijing and one of seven provinces. More than 2,500 U.S. educators traveled to China in

2012 National Chinese Language Conference

2011 AP Summer Institutes in China
In 2011, two summer institutes were offered: AP Chinese at East China Normal University, and AP World History at Beijing Normal University. Approximately 450 AP Chinese and World History teachers participated in institutes since 2006. Two-week program includes AP professional development and Chinese culture exploration. Participants receive scholarships covering tuition, room and board, and travel stipend.

New Initiative: Confucius Institutes and Classrooms Program
Provides grant funding and resources to schools and districts to expand/enhance their existing Chinese program Confucius Institutes are district-based, Confucius Classrooms are school-based is the pilot year but applications will be accepted on a rolling basis The three year goal is to establish 120 Confucius Classrooms
