1 Preparing to Care for Computer Baby

2 Important Details Permission form must be returned before you can take baby home It is best to sign up for a WEEKEND! Otherwise you need to choose two nights during the week. Computer baby must be cared for by YOU the entire time – cannot leave with a babysitter. SO BE SURE TO PLAN OUT YOUR SCHEDULE CAREFULLY! Grade is based on percentage that the computer gives when you return. (depends on total time, crying, care given or missed, abuse, head support)

5 Key things to remember….
Pick up after the last period of the day and return before the first period of the next day. Keep baby clothing on and protect the baby. The skin of the baby easily picks up dirt, grease, and stains easily. Support the baby’s head and be careful to not handle the baby roughly. Baby records Shaken Baby Syndrome if it is shaken (head moves back, forward, and back again in two seconds). Dress Baby appropriately for environmental conditions. Baby will track which article(s) of clothing it has on, and for how long. At a minimum, clothing should be changed from daytime outfit to sleeper, and back again in the morning.

7 Care to give… Feed: Hold the bottle or breast feeding device to Baby’s mouth. Baby makes feeding sounds and coos when done. Hold Baby while feeding or Baby cries. Burp: Pat Baby’s back. Baby makes small whimpering sounds and then burps after several minutes. Rock: Provide constant, gentle rocking motion. Baby makes soft whimpering sounds and coos when done. Diaper: Take off Baby’s diaper. Baby still whimpers. Put the OTHER diaper on. Baby coos.

8 IF STILL CRYING Pick Baby up and try rocking for 1 minute.
Double-check the ID. Baby’s head may have been unsupported, it may have been roughly handled, Baby will cry LOUDLY for a solid minute and there will be nothing you can do to soothe it. Baby may just be fussy. Rocking helps Baby quiet down. Fussy crying lasts for 3 MINUTES and then Baby coos. Hold your ID next to Baby’s diaper area and listen for the chime again. If Baby still does not chime, make sure Baby is being held on its back. Baby will cry if left on its stomach for 5 or more seconds. Breathing sounds mean Baby is sleeping or being rocked.
