2. WHY THIS RULE? PPE’s are the last protection between you and hazards
PPE’s are numerous and you have to know exactly what kind of PPE used for the highest protection level
PPE’s must be used in a good condition
Ask to participants to define which items are concerned, then on the next slide, clarify with the definitions.

3. RULE DEFINITION
When performing a task we must use the appropriate standard plus task-specific PPE at all times as per the preventative measures specified in the risk assessment.

4. I MUST Use appropriate PPE for the task
The appropriate PPE is defined in the risk assessment
Each item of PPE plays a role in protecting people
Follow the PPE instructions and manual precisely
It is strongly recommended not to wear jewelry (rings, watches, drop earrings, necklaces, bracelets…) at work
Be responsible for proper storage of my PPE
Your PPE is YOUR responsibility
Storage conditions are really important for ensuring you have suitable and clean PPE

5. I MUST Use specific PPE for specific tasks
Specific hazard = Specific PPE
Risk assessment is fundamental to determine preventative measures and consequently the suitable PPE for each task
The specific PPE use must be explained during the Pre-Job Meeting
Stop the job and intervene if I see a colleague without appropriate PPE
I must protect myself and my colleagues
Safety is for everybody

6. I MUST NOT Use PPE not provided by Dietsmann Use damaged PPE
Dietsmann selects and provides suitable PPE for all its employees
PPE not provided by Dietsmann may not be used, it may not comply with regulations

When PPE is damaged it loses properties
Damaged PPE can’t protect you against hazards

8. STANDARD PPE - HELMET To protect your head
The helmet’s outside cap is made to protect your head from falling object
The helmet’s inside cap is made to maintain the external cap on your head, it is working as a shock absorber
If one of these two is damaged, you have to change your helmet.
Your helmet has a life duration of a three year – maximum. Heat,
cold, UV radiations have impacts on your helmet everyday

9. STANDARD PPE - GLASSES To protect your eyes
Glasses will protect you against mechanical hazards. How to preserve your safety glasses?
Clean glasses each day, and handle them with care so as not to scratch the lenses
Place glasses in a box when not in use. Store in a clean, dry location where they can’t fall or be crushed
Replace scratched glasses, frosted, broken, bent or incorrectly
adjusted. Damaged glasses do not provide good vision and do not
offer adequate protection.

10. STANDARD PPE - COVERALL
To protect your body and to ensure
high visibility in case of emergency
Your standard coverall will protect you from:
Mechanical risk
Thermal risk
Risk due to poor visibility
Electrostatic risk
Your standard coverall won’t protect you from chemical, biologic,
radioactive risks. For that specific coverall must be used.

11. STANDARD PPE - EAR PLUG To protect your earing system
Ear plug to be worn at all time near production area
From 80 dB(A), ear plugs have to be provided by the employer
From 85 dB(A), ear plugs have to be used by the employees
Double ear protection may be required on site
Refer to site noise mapping
As soon as the residual noise is up to 87 dB(A)

12. Leather gloves for small jobs
STANDARD PPE - GLOVES
To be worn at all time to protect your hands. Regarding your activity you may use different gloves:
Electrician
Instrumentist
Heavy duties
Leather gloves for small jobs
Always use the gloves specified for your task. If you don’t know
which ones to wear, ask to your management which are the
appropriate gloves.
