1 Porphyrin Arrays as Light Harvesting Compounds Formed from Porphyrin Modules and Metal Linkers Alison Hyslop, Department of Chemistry, St. John’s University, Queens, NY 11439 Porphyrins are ubiquitous in nature, acting as light harvesting compounds, electron transfer mediators, and energy transfer groups. Porphyrin arrays are used to study the light harvesting capabilities of these compounds and to model the light harvesting processes found in nature. We have successfully synthesized a series of porphyrin imidazole compounds to use in the formation of arrays, and porphyrin imidazole compounds to attach to osmium metal centers for use in studying the energy transfer and electron transfer properties of these compounds.
