Street Style
2
There has been many different styles over the years and as times changed so did the styles people once wore, - the ones I’m looking at in this presentation are Teddy Boys and Modern Primitives (body modifications). I have chosen to look at these two styles because they're both something I love about fashion and self expression, I love the old gentleman style, but also with a modern twist with having the body modifications such as tattoos from their past times and travels.

Teddy boys Teddy boys started as a trend just after the war. The trend really took off in about 1952 and it was the beginning of the teenager, as in the past childhood jolted suddenly into adulthood because of the war. It was highly inspired by the Edwardian fashion; jackets in the style were single breasted, long fitted and featured velvet trim on the collar and cuffs. Normally worn with narrow trousers, fancy waistcoats and creepers. Britain was trying to regain its pride, and this ‘Edwardian’ style was served to symbolise a time when the greatness of Britain had been beyond dispute.

Body mods (modern primitives)
There is many ways you can change and decorate your skin in this practice, for example you can pierce nearly anywhere on your body, you can get implant put under your skin and you can get tattoos. Possibly the most common forms of body modification nowadays are tattoos and stretched ears. Humans were practicing some of the practices way back in 45,000 BC. It is even shown on king tuts death mask that even he had his ears stretched. So it has been going a good while and there seems to be no stopping it and how far it could possibly develop in the future with it slowly becoming socially acceptable.

finish I chose to look into these two subjects because they're both something I find really interesting to research and the way they look, but I love the fact that a new style, new tattoo or piercing can make someone feel on top of the world and see them happy. This could link into my work by me looking further into the style of teddy boys and putting my own take on things to create something original and something that would interest me if in a shop. I’m interested in linking this into my own work because I love the old style gentleman look; the white t-shirt, black trousers, braces, slicked back hair with always a comb in his back pocket. I’ve always been around this sort of look as my granddad dressed like this and still does and still always carries his comb wherever he goes.
