2019 Timeline Overview June: Parade practice & Tag Day
July: Lawrence July 4th Parade, summer break, band camp August: Back to school, after-school, and Saturday practices September – November: more rehearsals, football game performances, LC Invitational, contest season June: Parade practice: A large portion of the June 2-9 rehearsals will be focused on preparation for our performance in the City of Lawrence 4th of July parade. This allows rookie marchers the opportunity to learn how to march, and allows our band the opportunity to rehearse and perform as a collective unit prior to the start of Band Camp. Tag Day: Tag Day is an essential component of our marching band program. As our primary general fundraiser, all funds raised during Tag Day go towards funding the MPLT program. This helps lower the cost per student paid by our families! Students will visit local businesses on Tag Day, and solicit donations from its patrons, and a select group of students will travel around the Lawrence Community performing. We are extremely thankful for the outpouring of support we have received from our community and local businesses, and we look forward to another successful year! July: Lawrence July 4th Parade: MPLT will be participating in the City of Lawrence 4th of July parade, and we encourage everyone to find a spot along the parade route and cheer us on! Students will report to LC at 9am on the 4th, and will be dismissed from LC around 12pm. Summer break, band camp: MPLT will be on summer break from July 5th through the start of Band Camp on July 21st. August: Back to school, after-school, and Saturday practices: School begins on Thursday, August 1st, which will also be the first day of after-school rehearsals. For the most current information on our rehearsal and competition schedule, view the calendar on marchingpride.org. Rehearsals will generally be held at LC, but on occasion will move to LN. You will be notified via the newsletter and Remind 101 of any location changes. September – November: more rehearsals, football game performances, LC Invitational, contest season: MPLT will add Wednesday after-school rehearsals starting after Fall Break. We will be performing at select LC and LN football games again this year, starting with the LN football game on August 30th. The LC vs. LN game will be at Lucas Oil again this year on Friday, September 6th, and MPLT will be there! The LC Invitational will be held the following weekend on Saturday, September 14th, and will be MPLT’s first competitive performance of the season. Mark your calendars now and come out and cheer on our kids! This year’s contest season will also include invitationals at Avon, Ben Davis, and Center Grove. ISSMA Regionals will be on Saturday, October 19th, followed by BOA Super Regionals on October 25th and 26th, ISSMA State Qualifications on November 2nd, State Finals on November 9th, and BOA Grand Nationals November 14th - 16th.

Band Camp Experience MPLT Band Camp lays the foundation for the rest of the band season. A large portion of the show will be learned during this intense immersion experience. An ensemble performance group of this size must work not only on technical skills, but also on the teamwork and discipline that will ensure their success in every single performance. Band Camp is a closed campus. Students may not leave rehearsal until they are released by the directors. Parent volunteers are granted special permission to be on campus during their shift. Absences due to illness must be called in to a director by a parent to Parents will receive a phone call and/or text message if their child does not report to camp.

Band Camp - What to bring
Sunscreen Insect Repellent Water Jug Sneakers Extra socks, extra clothes Hat Sunglasses Medications A GREAT attitude! Sunscreen: It is essential that students apply sunscreen multiple times each day. Sunscreen will be available at the medical cart for those students who forget to bring some from home. Insect Repellent: Mosquitos are a common visitor to our evening rehearsals, be prepared! Insect repellent will also be available at the medical cart. Water Jug: A gallon-sized insulated jug is recommended; water tables will be available each day, and directors will continually encourage students to stay hydrated. Sneakers: Proper fitting, supportive sneakers (with socks!) are a necessity throughout the marching band season, but especially during Band Camp. Flip flops and sandals are not allowed to be worn during rehearsal. Extra socks, extra clothes: Students will be outside for the majority of the day, during the hottest part of the summer. Many students choose to bring extra clothes in the event theirs get wet or uncomfortable. Hat and/or Sunglasses Medications: All medications must be labeled with the student’s name, and turned in to medical personnel. Students should report to the medical cart to take their medications. If your student will be taking prescription medication during Band Camp rehearsals, it must be sent in the original bottle or package containing physician dosage instructions. A GREAT attitude!
