National recruitment organised by FPH Local recruitment for Academic Clinical Fellows National recruitment Critical process for having the best quality registrars. FPH recruitment exec worked with Work Psychology to produce process: assessment centre for psychometric numerical critical thinking, verbal reasoning and situational judgement test selection centre – series of panels covering different aspects of public health person specification – SW involvement - selectors from south west on selection centre panels. Admin running or 1 assessment centre and 2 selection centres Local recruitment to appoint locally managed Academic Clinical Fellows following national guidelines

Accreditation of all educational supervisors Part accreditation now Full accreditation by July 2012 7 core competencies logged on Intrepid Public Health Training the Training programme Severn Deanery and SW Peninsula Training Supervisors moving from clinical to educational supervisor – process worked out to formalise. See next slide for view of fully accredited supervisor on Intrepid Log-ins from Severn Deanery, not programme team. Training at Severn Deanery - may be forced to introduce charging for courses due to high number of non-attenders.

2011 guidance for academic supervisors Part A revision course Discussion group ‘How can you ensure you work effectively with your academic supervisor?’ Support from world class academics. Need to ensure all academics are accredited supervisors.

Tutorial programme Mock OSPHE exams Learning sets (StR organised) Journal club (StR organised) Regional induction Training conference Scientific conference – 01 February 2012 Residential school …………evaluations Registrar led tutorial programme. Registrars devise programme and find speakers. Quality of tutorials high. Each registrar has the opportunity to attend a mock OSPHE. Recommend supervisors to volunteer to take part so we have large pool who have first hand knowledge of the exam and can support registrars (not just their own) when they are preparing. Five examiners in the region. We need feedback from events.

Specialty tutors – an enthusiast from each location who will encourage high standards and governance of training in-house; share ideas and information, including annual quality report; link to the RTC through zone leads; consider developing their regional and national training role.

Quality Panels - a Deanery method for assessing locations against GMC standards Review several locations at one Panel meeting, using ‘evidence’ from a range of sources. Aims to inform judgement of an overall quality rating for each location. End of placement questionnaires
