Government policy is that young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, including those with more complex needs, should be supported to develop the skills and gain the qualifications and experience they need to succeed in their careers.
Local Authorities should start a support plan on employability at the age of 14

Islington’s Council’s employment service offering one-to-one personalised support to help unemployed residents get into work.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau
Independent and confidential advice on employment.
Open to all residents for drop in from Monday to Friday and one late evening (Thursday) per week. You can also call them on (Monday–Friday 10am-1pm, pm)

9. Learning Disabilities: Employment support
Community Access Project – Daylight
This project provides one to one support for people to apply to jobs. These jobs are specially selected and designed for people with learning disabilities.
The project also uses job coaches to provide in work support for people with learning disabilities once they start their new job.

10. Learning Disabilities: Employment support
City and Islington College
The college runs a variety of courses for students with learning disabilities, including catering, horticulture, arts and media, sports and leisure, woodwork and furniture making and retail. Currently all courses offer a qualification at either Entry Level 1, 2, 3 or Level 1 and most courses include an unpaid work placement.
There is also a café and an external catering business run by students with learning difficulties.

Elfrida’s ‘Learning for Life and Work Centre’ offers accredited courses for adults with learning disabilities who wish to improve their basic skills in literacy, numeracy, ICT and general skills for work.

Mencap’s Employ Me programme
As well as supporting you to get a job they can also support you while you are at work.
If you have not worked before or have been out of work for some time, Mencap also offer learning skills for work. Just some of the sessions available are Managing Money, Travel and Safety, Assessing my Skills for Work.
