1 Cardinal John’s Request TE AWAKAIRANGI
That we review our churches and presbyteries against what we need today in Te Awakairangi TE AWAKAIRANGI A Catholic Parish of the Archdiocese of Wellington

2 What has Cardinal John asked for?
That we: … assess what we need … assess what we have … think about others … look outward in service SLIDE TWO - Presenter 2 answers in own words the question – What has Cardinal John asked for? That we look closely at the buildings we have in our wider parish and assess what we really need to be life-giving and thriving communities today. That we do everything possible to consider the needs of everyone but especially those who are poor, sick, elderly, young or have young children – these things making their needs deeply impacting and possibly less heard. That we remember to think outwardly – we’re not here to be closed off but to be wider community focused – how can we serve the people of the Hutt Valley?

3 Why should I care? Because: … decisions will affect us
… we’re Christian – we care … we live in a bigger community that needs us … Cardinal John has asked for our help SLIDE THREE - Presenter 1 answers in own words the question – Why should I care? (Why should I be involved?) Well, purely from self-interest, the changes that will follow will affect you! But as Christians, we’re here because we care about those around us. The Gospel of JC that we profess is all about us living for each other. The early Christian community in the book of the Acts of the Apostles, lived in common, sharing much of what they owned. Today we’re being asked to share with our neighbours around the Hutt Valley by thinking carefully about what we need and what we have. Because our Bishop has asked us to help him discern and find ways forward for our Catholic communities.

4 How do I participate? By: … thinking about our situation
… finding out more … talking to friends about it … praying about it … encouraging/challenging others … responding online or in writing SLIDE FOUR - Presenter 2 answers in own words the question – How do I participate? Consider our parish situation – talk to people – go to Mass in one of the parishes other Churches. Get to know a bit more about Naenae, Taita, Avalon and this place. Sit in prayer with the different questions – and noted down what you think is important for the Steering Committee. Talk to others about this issue and encourage them to have a say. Fill in the survey by hand or go to our website – QR codes for scanning on your pages. and postal addresses provided and you can drop it in to the office. But again – two critical things: take it to prayer and think of others, especially those who may be less fortunate than you are.
