Undergrad committee Including these slides

2 Summary Progress on Big Data minor – proposal soon
CS for engineers request from ME - no CPE219 insertion into prereq tree – No no votes CS 471/671 Advanced Robotics in Curriculog - done Nevada Teach program to create engineers with teaching credentials – quick overview Calling top recruitable undergraduate students versus ing them – 2 response + 3 areas

3 Big Data Minor

4 CS for Engineers ME wants CSE to teach old CS241
Undergrad committee would like to decline

5 CS 219 (Computer Org) stands apart
CS Computer Organization (3 units) Introduction to organization and integration of computer components. Topics include: computer abstractions and performance, arithmetic operations, instruction set architecture, assembly programming, datapath, pipelining, memory hierarchy, I/O, and parallel architectures. Prerequisite(s): CPE 201; CS 202. Change Prereq to CPE301 to bring it in to our curriculum CPE 301 prereqs CPE201 CS219 or EE 291 (to cater to EE students) && (;)

6 Academic Integrity Existing Draft cites several sources Plan:
Discuss (ugrad) then send draft to all Discuss at next meeting, perhaps vote

7 Nevada Teach Teaching Certificate and BS in CSE
Need to enable two Educ courses as possible tech electives 27 extra credits needed to be a low paid teacher Not been discussed at any length yet CS 471/671 Advanced Robotics in Curriculog Jim Hung La

8 CPE 471/671 CPE 471/671 Advanced Robotics
Closer in course number to other robotics courses in Curriculog Jim Hung La Was 490/690

9 Math 301 Cannot take as tech elective, cannot take for Math Minor
Too much overlap with CS 365

10 C01 CS 105, CPE 301, CS302, CS365, ENGR301 Are these still the courses in CSE that “Develop” C01? Else what changes have been made Syllabi for current C01 “Develops” courses Getting information from Sergiu/Michael is difficult C or better for all required courses Gradually being phased in

11 Several Scenarios to consider and provide guidance to Advising office.
From Ivy Chin Several Scenarios to consider and provide guidance to Advising office. Undergrad committee will consider these at next meeting

12 From Ivy Chin Per Engineering Progression policy, students are allowed to get 3 attempts to earn C or better grades in MATH 181, MATH 182, MATH 283, PHYS 180, 180L, and PHYS 181. We will start warning and enforcing this policy beginning this Summer/Fall registration period. Below are some scenarios the advisors would like to know if exceptions can be granted: If a student (prior to 2014 catalog) has been able to delay MATH 283 or PHYS 181, but has taken at least 6 credits of upper division major classes, we should allow him/her to continue. They should not subject to 3 attempts at those classes. Advisors’ rationale: They have made a vested effort and over half way done. Transfer credits, withdrawals, audits are included in the 3 attempts. Do they get one more attempt, especially for new transfer student? What if they show improvement with each attempt (F—D—C-)?  A student on pre-engineering progression took a self-imposed break after not going well? They will automatically be on the new catalog. This means engineering profession policy will now apply to them. What about students who change major from engineering then decide to return? These students will likely to be on the new catalog too. Additionally, we would also like to get your feedback on the following classes: Core Curriculum classes such as English, Core Humanities Other C or better classes in the major (i.e. Math 285, Statics, all required CS classes for CSE majors) Other lower-division major classes (no C or better requirement) Upper-division major classes
