Rationale and vision Aim: to prolong and support independent living for elderly citizens in their preferred environment, whilst maintaining/enhancing Quality of care Quality of life Access to needed services Despite pressures facing service provision: greying population -> increased demand diminishing numbers of health and care personnel -> human resources stretched budgetary constraints New models for care and cure, uniting technology, social aspects, medical aspects and human interactions

Objective To develop, trial, deploy and evaluate a new kind of community model based on a novel social model which cares for and empowers elderly citizens and enables them to continue to live independently and safely in their own homes longer with enhanced quality of life and social The model gives access to all kinds of personally tailored services, including support services, information, care, health and wellbeing and entertainment supported by advanced ICT systems

PARC HOOGVELD A new build development, embedded within an existing neighbourhood, designed to implement the new social model by integrating homes and a community centre, facilitating seamless availablity of community, care, health, welfare and other services. A testbed environment for the new social and care model and the supporting ICT services

The LIVING VILLAGE intelligent home environment
Detects health and other emergencies and facilitates appropriate response Supports social networking of the elderly citizen with friends, family, peers Supports citizen centric virtual care network of professionals and informal carers Caters for infotainment and entertainment needs of the citizen If they are interested and able, empowers elderly citizens to use their skills and make positive contributions to society eg. by enabling informal work/mentoring/consulting
