Market Size Market size?
Total Addressable Market (TAM): everyone you wish to reach with your product Specific Addressable Market (SAM): the portion of TAM you will target Share of Market (SOM): the subset of your SAM that you will realistically reach in the first years of business

Product/Service What product or service are you going to be selling?
What is the technology that this is based on? Who are you going to be selling it to? I.e. who are your target customers Now, and in the future Types and locations

Value proposition What benefit are you providing, for who and how do you do it uniquely well? What are the applications of your technology? What are the key benefits to customers? How much does your product cost? E.g. Is it cheaper or more expensive than current solutions? Why is it unique and for whom?

Defensibility How will you maintain your competitive advantage over time? Ongoing research and development? Can the idea be protected? Details of IP protection Patents? Trade Secrets? Copyright? Freedom to operate Is there any other IP you need to license to bring your product to market? Access to specific know-how/data/resources?

Competition Who are your competitors?
Direct and indirect How is your solution better than theirs? E.g. Table comparing different characteristics

Route to Market What is the commercial path to market and who do you have to interact with to get to market? Details of business model How are you going to make money? Who will you sell this to? For how much? When will you have a product ready to sell? Barriers to customer adoption What would stand in the way of your customers using your product? How will you get your customers to use your technology? Why will it be easy for them to change to your product?

Short Term Strategy What are your plans for the first 12 months? Tell us what your start-up will do in the first year. E.g. Team building? New location? Product development? Business development? Cash requirement? Milestones? Where will you get? What value add point will you reach?

Financial Model Show your calculations
How much will it cost you to make the product? How much will you sell it for? What profit will you obtain? Simple profit and loss, and cash flow

Do you want to sell the company to someone else or build the next HP or GSK? How many lives do you want to impact and how? What behaviours do you want to change? What is the reason for the company’s existence? Why might people be motivated to work for you?
