Aims of today’s training session
You will learn: What is Lynda.com and why you would use this eresource? How to access the database for free via your State Library of Queensland or Rural Libraries Queensland (RLQ) membership. How to browse for elearning courses. To complete a Lynda.com introduction course to familiarise yourself with the eresource and its features.

What is Lynda.com? Lynda.com is an elearning subscription service that includes over 5,500 courses and over 136,000 video tutorials. Examples of topics include Windows 10, Office 365, Google Docs, photography, web development, marketing, IT, business management, and job seeking. Courses are provided by industry experts and the self- paced learning options are suitable for advanced and beginner learners. There are new courses added every week. Access to Lynda.com Free, 24/7, online access to Lynda.com’s thousands of online courses is available via your State Library of Queensland or Rural Libraries Queensland membership. You can access the database via the internet on your PC or via the app installed on your mobile device. (Note: you need to create a profile on your desktop first before using the app). System requirements listed at Do I have to pay to access lynda.com? State Library subscribes to lynda.com, and free access is available to all Queenslanders using your State Library of Queensland or Rural Libraries Queensland (RLQ) membership. The state-wide subscription allows all Queensland residents unlimited access to the online courses from any compatible desktop or portable device, whether on a library computer, at your home or business, or on your mobile device. Can I access the database directly from the lynda.com URL? State Library uses a web proxy server (EZproxy) to provide users from outside the library's computer network access to restricted-access websites. As such, you can only access lynda.com by using the State Library’s proxied web address: You may wish to bookmark this url for easy access. Can I access lynda.com via the lynda.com app? Yes. Create your profile on your desktop first. Download the app from your preferred app store, and log in with the user name and password. Login to Lynda.com via State Library’s proxy login address OR State Library’s Website click - Resources > Research and Collections > eresources > Lynda.com. Choose the user category which fits you and follow the login link. (DO NO go directly to Accessing Lynda.com via State Library membership 1. Enter your State library membership details (if you’re not currently a State library member sign up for immediate access) - Accessing Lynda.com via State Library membership 2. Enter your State Library membership details when prompted (if you are not currently an State Library member, sign up online for immediate access to Lynda.com and many other resources)

3. Once your State Libray membership is authenticated you will be redirected to the Lynda.com logon page. Log in if you have a Lynda profile, if not click Create a profile. If you have a Lynda profile log into your account, if not click "create a profile ":

Creating a Lynda.com profile
Ent If its your first time accessing Lynda.com, after logging in you will need to create a profile. Enter the information required and create your new user profile and click Log In. If you have logged in via State Library’s proxy address you will be prompted to select which library you are from, select "State Library of Queensland " from the dropdown list of libraries and click "save “.

Browse via keyword search – Search directly using keywords in the search bar. You can continue to refine your results using the options down the left hand side.

Remember…… Playlist - Add videos to your personal playlist and curate your own learning library. Download – You can download courses and watch them later offline. Lynda.com provides download options on both the desktop and the app, allowing you to download content for viewing offline. On your desktop, select the “View offline” button located underneath the video to start the download (you will need to download the desktop app to download content). On the app, simply click the download icon to download one or all of your videos in your current course.
