Dr. Rusty Bartels Monday, April 1st, 2019 Week 11, Day 1

2 Overview Freewrite Lemberg Wrap-up

3 Freewrite What are your thoughts of the term “civility”?
How have you heard “civility” be used as a term or concept in recent months/years? What does “civility” have to do with writing? Ethics? Civic discourse?

4 Lemberg – Round 1 The Twitter Thread as a Genre
How does this genre affect the information presented within it? What are formatting constraints the author has to consider? How do you see that affecting Lemberg’s composition? If you decided to create a twitter thread as your non-essay genre, what kinds of composition choices would you have to make? What would your process look like?

5 Lemberg – Round 2 According to Lemberg, how do civility, politeness, and power connect to each other? What academic and public conversations does Lemberg draw on to explain the concept? In what ways do you see “ethics” and “civic discourse” being a part of this conversation? How do discourses of “civility” appear in your own topics?
