1 relation: a comparison of 2 sets

2 cowboys Could they be related?
and angels… Could a cowboy be related to an angel? Well, if we want to examine a relation, let’s look at our 2 sets. Could they be related?

3 This cowboy used to date an angel
Cowboys & angels This cowboy used to date an angel and these cowboys and angels are professionals. This cowboy is an angel. This cowboy used to date an angel And these cowboys and angels are both professionals. This cowboy is an angel These cowboys and angels blaze a different trail. mapping

4 ordered pairs a table cowboys angels (Romo, Simpson), ( Dallas, L.A.),
A variety of representations can compare the two sets: verbally, like this song; cowboys angels Tony Romo Jessica Simpson Dallas Cowboys Los Angeles Angels Lane Frost Space Cowboys Blue Angels a table (Romo, Simpson), ( Dallas, L.A.), (Frost, Frost), (Space, Blue) ordered pairs

5 Angels or we could try to use a graph. But would this be accurate? Simpson Los Angeles Frost Blue Cowboys Dallas Frost Romo Space

6 increasing or positive decreasing or negative
We want to examine the relationship to see if it is increasing or positive or decreasing or negative But Cowboys and Angels are only related by a quality, not quantity. In math such as Algebra our comparisons are based on numerical facts.

7 There might even be no relation or random

8 We can take a particular set of Cowboys and examine 2 sets of their data to see if there is a relation. Dallas Cowboys 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 Wins 8 6 11 9 13 10 Losses 5 7 3 table representation

9 Are the wins related to time?
verbal representation (2003, 10), (2004, 6), (2005, 9), (2006, 9), (2007, 13), (2008, 9), (2009, 11), (2010, 6), (2011, 8) ordered pairs 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 5 6 8 9 10 11 13 Wins Time mapping

10 a graphical representation
This data represents a mathematical relation of wins over time. We will examine quantities in Algebra using all of these types of representations: Verbally, a table/chart, mapping, ordered pairs and graphing.
