3. Galatians 2:11-14
But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?” 

4. Galatians 2:15-21
15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. 

5. 17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. 

6. Galatians 2:11-14 Peter and Cornelius (Acts 10-11:18)
Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying, 3 “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.” 4 But Peter began and explained it to them… (Acts 11:2-4)
When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.” (Acts 11:18)

Why do you think Peter was afraid of the circumcision party (2:12)?
What was Peter doing that made Paul confront him? What was the hypocrisy?

Gal 2:16 (3x), 3:2, 5, 10
Does it only refer to the Mosaic law? Only ceremonial and not moral laws?
Refers to Law of Moses AND all forms of good works.
For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20)

15. “Faith in Christ” (2:16) “dia pisteōs Iēsou Christo”
Faith in Christ or Faithfulness of Christ?
yet we know that no one is justified by the works of the law but by the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by the faithfulness of Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified (NET Bible)

Need to read Paul in a new way instead of from Reformers point of view.
Issue is not about Salvation bur rather Exclusivism
Paul condemning the Jews of being exclusive

19. Romans 6:3-6
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

20. Galatians 2:17-21 Paul answers objection. (2:17-18)
Paul’s own Justification experience (2:19-21)
Paul had died to the law
Been crucified with Christ..
So that I may now live by faith
Christ’s death is meaningless if righteousness is obtained through the law. (2:21)
