3. Resist the Urge to Say Something Profound
Listen
Be ok with silence and raw emotion
Avoid clichés
Nothing can prepare you for this
He won’t give you more than you can handle
You’re in my prayers (said flippantly)
“You can do more than pray, after you have prayed, but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed”

4. Understand the Reality of the Situation
Be updated on the latest circumstances before you go
Don’t take God off the hook
Don’t make comparisons

5. Offer to Help Ask how you can help, but don’t expect an answer
Look around at what needs to get done and do it
Mow their lawn
Provide meals
Healthy snacks at the hospital
Groceries
Childcare
