History of the Bonspiel 28 th January 1899. The first Border Bonspiel was played on the recently constructed reservoir at Bowden Moor by kind permission of the Lunacy Board of Directors, Dingleton. 4 th December 1899. Agreement was made to purchase a Gold Medal at a cost of no more than £1 to be presented to the skip with the highest score at the Bonspiel. 7 th October 1901. Introduction of a rule stipulating the minimum number of teams each club may enter into the Border Bonspiel based on their membership numbers. (This rule still stands today)

History of the Bonspiel 1 st December 1902. Agreement was made to purchase a Monteith Bowl from Mr Jas Aitchison, Edinburgh as a trophy for the Border Bonspiel. This decision was made by arbitration, as the committee could not earlier agree on which company to purchase the trophy from. (Arbiter on this mater was Colonel Hope of Cowden Knowes.) 25 th February 1913. The Border Bonspiel had to be postponed due to the Grand Match being played the same day.

History of the Bonspiel 25 th March 1925. First indoor playing of the Border Bonspiel at Haymarket Ice Rink, Edinburgh. 18 th & 19 th February 1930. 52 teams took part in the Border Bonspiel from these clubs: Allanton, Branxholme, Chirnside, Coldstream, Duns, Earlston, Flowers of the Forrest, Galashiels, Greenlaw, Hassendean, Hawick, Jedburgh, Jedforest, Kelso, Lammermuir, Lauder, Melrose, St Boswells, Selkirk, Stow, Swinton,

History of the Bonspiel 9 th & 10 th January 2013 48 teams entered the competition from a total of 19 Border Clubs To Date: The Border Province has received sponsorship of 264 bottles of The Famous Grouse Scotch Whisky For this we are deeply grateful !!!
