2 Year 1 Morning routine NAME EVERYTHING!
Messages in HSLB or passed on paper in the morning PPP toy (break time) Show and Tell box, Poppy and Star of the day. Dojos Drinks and snacks From next Monday morning the children will say goodbye to their grown ups at the classroom door. This will help to settle the children into their morning activity and keep the classroom calm. Please name all uniform including shoes! PPP toys are for playtimes only. They need to be small enough to fit in the box, not make sounds or be too special. The show and tell box and Osacr owl teddy will go home every Friday, to be returned the during the following week for your child to share with the class. Children will continue to collect Dojos this year to work towards a class treat afternoon (the children have voted for a popcorn afternoon) The behaviour policy is on the school website. If there are any behaviour issues please come to speak to me directly so that the issue can be resolved. Drink bottles need to be water, not milkshakes or juice. Please can snacks be healthy e.g. raisins or crackers not crisp or chocolate.

Fire! Fire! Whizzing Wheels (transport through time) Land Ahoy! (UK) Mrs Collins Wednesday 1 hour Ms Young Friday pm PE on a Friday– PE kits in school and named. The Year 1 topic overview for this term and the yearly rolling programme is available on the school website. Ms Young will teach the children on a Tuesday afternoon – PE kits need to be in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

4 Our Timetable Mrs Bingham and Mrs Honywill will be in class every morning. Mrs Musgave supports learning on a Thursday and Friday morning. Mrs Herbert will support some afternoon lessons. Please can library books be returned ready to swap on a Friday. Reading books need to be in school every day.

5 English Year 1 Common Exception Words Daily Phonics/spelling rules
Handwriting – pre cursive. All children writing letters correctly. Lower case and upper case letters. Phonics Screening – ARE Writer toolkits Separate Writing targets – end of Year1 expectations. Writing targets in front of English books (focus on spelling and handwriting) Babcock writing tools are used to support teaching and success criteria in the children’s books. E.g. paintbrush represents descriptive words. Year 1 statutory phonics screening assessment is in June. It will test the children’s ability to apply phase 5 phonemes when reading real and nonsense words. The children will be given a score. The score will be at ARE or working below ARE depending on the pass mark.

Guided reading weekly with Teacher Changing books (Mon, Wed, Fri) Library books Parent helpers RWI phrases in HSLB Parent Open morning Please listen to your child read at home. Children need lots of opportunities to apply their phonics in reading. Record notes or even a tick in the HSLB to show that your child has read at home. Reading books match a phonic phase. Year 1 end of year expectation is phase 5. Parent helpers on a Monday, Thursday and Friday – please can children have their reading books in their book bag every day. We change reading books on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please ask if you would like your child to change their book more often.

7 Maths Maths focus in HSLB for the following week
Calculation Policy on website Building on end of EYFS expectations (to 20) Place value to 100, multiplication/division and fractions. Topmarks Separate Maths targets – end of Year1 expectations. Children will be learning about place value to They will consolidate their understanding of 3D shapes and addition and subtraction. Children will be introduced to multiplication, division and fractions.

8 Home Learning Weekly spellings in HSLB – link to our focus phoneme in school that week. Creative homework projects returned to school during the term. Daily reading at home Please help your child to practise their weekly spellings at home. Creative home work projects – choose one activity and return to school for children to share to the class.
