Title:  A Research Career:  Asking, Answering, Professing
Abstract: Using my experience in Monte Carlo simulation as an example, I will discuss the pain and pleasures
of pursuing the research activities of defining a
problem, then creating an answer, and finally explaining
and defending both the problem and the answer.
Mixed into the discussion will be thoughts about...        --Research versus consulting versus funding.        --Research for fun, for knowledge, for profit.        --The products of research.        --Research compared to management.        --Why to, and not to, write an MS thesis.        --Students as colleagues; colleagues as colleagues.        --Authorship preferences.        --The "top five" rule.        --When the research frontier isn't known.        --The role of subcultures.        --The role of recognition.
   Ideally, there will be questions.
