case 1: An 83-year-old man with weakness and abdominal pain since a month ago as well as acitis in clinical examination
13
What is your diagnosis?
14
High grade malignant lymphoma
15
Serous effusions are a well-recognized complication of lymphoma but rarely the detection of lymphoma cells in a serous effusion has been the first morphologic manifestation of the disease .
16
Staining methods 1.papanicolaou method 2. Air-dried Romanowsky stained preparation
17
Papanicolaou stained preparations do not
allow the same degree of correlation with the various types of lymphoma and leuk- emia that can be achieved by the use of Romanowsky-stained preparations.
18
However ,not being able to type lymphoma in serous effusions is rarely a disadvantage of pap method ,because nearly all of the patients has already been diagnosed as having lymphoma .
19
Key features of lymphoma and leukemia
1. Isolated cell only 2. Cells frequently necrotic 3. Morphologic range : from seemingly mature lymphocyte to large cells with polymorphous nuclei
20
Gastric biopsy
