Expand portfolio of EGI services

Storage services for RIs
EGI-Engage has a whole task devoted to the deployment of an Open Data Platform in the EGI infrastructure Open Data PID, data federation, sharing data Research Infrastructure need storage services to support their research Production-level, scalable storage and data management services Distributed data archives, cpu close to data, scalable data access EGI Infrastructure has production storage resources Next step is to identify what are the solutions that can be used by the RIs to access data management and storage services ....
3
Storage services for RIs (2)
First step would be to put together a distributed testbed for testing of Interoperability Scalability Transfer Tested driven by real scientific applications and use case RIs have already use cases to be tested and deployed ELIXIR, Structural Biology, BBMRI, DARHIA, Instruct, Human Brain Project.. The testbed can be used in the context of a Virtual Team with EGI partners, EGI-Engage partners and technology providers CC NGIs should participate ....
4
Dataset storage for the long-tail
Another use case for the storage federation is the provisioning of dataset repositories for the long tail For the EGI users, national users and the long-tail Generic repositories to store datasets, make them discoverable and share To build upon the same test-bed ....

Federating HPC HPC clusters are often available in the NGI, part of national networks of supercomputing facilities but not directly part of European infrastructures HPC cluster enables efficient deployment of massively parallel jobs Potential communities: DRHIM, CompChem These clusters host the research of national users who cannot access the European-level computing centres Federating the HPC resources can enable international collaboration What are the available resources in the NGIs that could be potentially federated? Not part of an europan infrastructure, to give access to international communities with need of sustained hpc resources, without scientific review. Drhim and computational chemistry ....

HPC virtual access HPC resources federated and exposed through UNICORE, QCG or Globus middleware Integrated with the EGI Operations framework A subset of these resources could be allocated for trans-national access to support the long-tail of HPC users EGI can be the interface with international communities who need sustained access to HPC resources for their research, and define the access policies (with SLAs and resources allocation process) This activity could be considered virtual access and supported in the operational costs/support activities EGI interfaces wirth internatrional communities defining access policies Virtual access Cost Recovery (operations, application porting) ....

Summary EGI partners have the resources to expand the service portfolio Have experience in providing those services to their national users Federating these services will enable coordinated actions to support international collaborations, and to access potential funding opportunities What can your NGI share in terms of services? Storage HPC Data management ....
