Engine Oil New- Amber in color

Used oil Darker with age

Abused Oil Thick and black- strong burnt or gas smell.

Oil with contaminants Dirt, Metal, Components (parts, gasket material, paint, etc.) & other fluids mixed in.

Automatic Transmission Oil
New- Red Old- Brown

Gear Lube/Manual Transmissions (old)
New is amber, thicker and it has a unique smell. Used will darken and smell worse. When it is really bad…. Nothing on earth smell s like this does…..

Washer Fluid Usually Blue Can be green, red or other colors

Grease Many colors- depending on it’s use

Coolant/Antifreeze Many colors---- read and read again before you use.

Use the wrong one or mix them…

Air Conditioning Sweating Water
Normal

Brake Fluid DOT 3 & 4 can be green as well
DOT 5 can not be mixed with the others- different formula… WARNING DOT 5.1 – New, can be mixed with DOT 3 & 4… Just will not be pure and boil protection would not be 518 degrees (Red in color) Flus the system and then you can make a change/upgrade

Newer styles of P.S. Fluid
Clear- Ford & Others Yellow- Asian Green- European Violet/Blue- Mercedes * Honda has it’s own- Yellow

Diesel Exhaust Fluid- DEF
Clear or Blue

Long Story Short Use the WRONG fluid--- you may ruin the parts
& void any warranty.
