2
Grace Filled Conflict Resolution
It’s Biblical Begins with going to the person you are having a conflict with and discussing with them. If issue cannot be resolved then you bring in an impartial 3rd party. This goes for conflicts with anyone.
3
What to do when… Once a third person has been brought into the situation they are a mediator What is mediation? Any process for resolving disputes in which another person helps the parties in reaching a settlement. (Beer and Stief, 3).
4
2 TYPES Formal Informal We mostly do informal within housing, this is where you get the parties together for a conversation
5
When Mediation Works? When resolution (or change) is wanted
All the important stakeholders come to the table The parties are (eventually) able to express the reasons for their discomfort and distress Mediator is able to control and sustain the process The parties are capable of living up to their promises (Beer and Stief, 7)
6
Value Added The goal is reconciliation
That is the act of agreeing all parties deserve to exist in community, and all parties are willing to live forward from this moment on. Key Ingredient Needed: R-E-S-P-E-C-T
7
What is Conflict? Conflict emerges when the circles are threatened
8
Process I Meet separately Then meet jointly
Uninterrupted time to state their issue
9
Process II: The Exchange
Let them begin the process of back and forth Blaming may be apart of this process Hint: at any time during this exchange the mediator can ask to meet with the participants separately. Mediator Role: to keep the conversation in bound and working towards ideas from issue.
10
Process III Setting the Agenda We know the past
Desire to move from the past What will the future look like? What steps will happen to build this?
11
