1. CryoNet – site structure
To meet different user needs the CryoNet network of in-situ observations is structured into three classes of observational sites 1

2. CryoNet Structure CryoNet Basic Site (Cryosphere only)
Monitor single or multiple components of the cryosphere
Observe multiple variables of each component
Measure auxiliary meteorological variables
Comply with GCW best practices
Have operational status and long-term financial commitment
Make data freely available, whenever possible in (near) real time
CryoNet Integrated Site (Multiple spheres)
In addition to CryoNet site characteristics:
Monitor at least one other sphere
Have a strong research focus
Have trained, on-site staff
Have training capability
CryoNet Stations
(Site contains one or more stations)
Primary station
Have target of long-term operation
Have a 4 year initial commitment
Baseline station
Have a long-term record (10+ years) 2
