1 Regulation No. 148 [LSD] – Stage II Side Parking lamps
SLR-30-13 Problem statement: As defined in R48 a parking lamp is a front or a rear signalling function which is optional on vehicles. The color definition is white to the front and red to the rear as specified in R48. As an additional solution a parking lamp could be mounted on the side of a vehicle, then it should be a combination of a front and rear parking lamp. So, the colour is still red and white but as a special case this side parking lamp could also be reciprocally incorporated with a side marker lamp or a side direction indicator. In this case, the colour could be amber. Regarding all these definitions and requirements, there is a need to rephrase the requirements in Reg. 148 where only amber is mentioned and the visibility angles and photometric performance of these side parking lamps are not clearly defined. UN-R[148] (LSD) Annex 2 Table A2-2 Light-distribution in space, horizontal and vertical UN-R48 "Parking lamp" means a lamp which is used to draw attention to the presence of a stationary vehicle in a built-up area. In such circumstances it replaces the front and rear position lamps. 5.15. The colours of the light emitted by the lamps are the following: Parking lamp: White in front, red at the rear, amber if reciprocally incorporated in the side direction-indicator lamps or in the side-marker lamps. Lamp Horizontal angles (A/B) Min. vertical angles(above/below) Additional information Side parking 0° / 45° 15° / 15° 15° / 5°2 Horizontal angles apply to front and rear [1] Side parking lamps are a combination of front and rear facing parking lamps. Possible solution: Add the footnote from Annex 2 of UN-R148 and the color definition of UN-R48 to the technical description of the parking lamps in UN-.R148, Par. 5.3.

Existing Text New Text 5.3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS CONCERNING PARKING LAMPS (SYMBOL 77R) The light emitted by each of the two lamps supplied shall meet the requirements in Table 5. Table 5: Luminous intensities for parking lamps However, a luminous intensity of 60 cd shall be permitted for parking lamps directed to the rear incorporated with stop lamps below a plane forming an angle of 5° with and downward from the horizontal plane. Outside the reference axis and within the angular fields defined in the diagrams in Part A of Annex 2, the intensity of the light emitted by each lamp shall, in each direction corresponding to the points in the table of standard light distribution reproduced in paragraph 2. of Annex 3, be not less than the minimum specified in paragraph , multiplied by the percentage specified in the said table for the direction in question. Throughout the fields defined in the diagrams in Part B of Annex 2, the luminous intensity of the light emitted must be not less than 0.05 cd for front and rear parking lamps; The colour of light emitted shall: (a) For forward facing parking lamps be white; (b) For rearward facing parking lamps be red; (c) For side facing parking lamps be amber. 5.3. Parking lamps (77R) Luminous intensity: The light emitted by each of the two lamps samples supplied shall meet the requirements in Table 5. Table 5: Luminous intensities for parking lamps Standard light distribution: Outside the reference axis and within the angular fields defined in the diagrams in Part A of Annex 2, the intensity of the light emitted by each lamp sample must, in each direction corresponding to the points in the table of standard light distribution reproduced in paragraph 2.1. of Annex 3, be not less than the minimum specified in paragraph , multiplied by the percentage specified in the said table of the direction in question. However, a luminous intensity of 60 cd shall be permitted for parking lamps directed to the rear incorporated with stop lamps below a plane forming an angle of 5° with and downward from the horizontal plane; Throughout the fields defined in the diagrams in Part A or B of Annex 2, the luminous intensity of the light emitted must be not less than 0.05 cd for front, rear and side parking lamps; Colour: The colour of light emitted shall: (a) For front parking lamps be white; (b) For rear parking lamps be red; (c) For side1 parking lamps be red/white or amber2. Apparent surface: No additional requirements. Measurement: Other requirements: [ Failure provisions: See Par. 4.6.] Minimum luminous intensity in H-V (values in cd) Maximum luminous intensity in any direction (values in cd) front parking lamps 2 60 rear facing parking lamps 30 Minimum luminous intensity in H-V (values in cd) Maximum luminous intensity in any direction (values in cd) forward facing parking lamps 2 60 rearward facing parking lamps 30 1 Side parking lamps are a combination of front and rear facing parking lamps 2 Amber [to the front and rear] is allowed when the side parking lamp is reciprocally incorporated in the side-direction indicator lamps or the side marker lamps
