1 Monday March 18th 2019 Review Question #1
Assuming the batteries are the same, which magnet do you think is stronger, A or B, and justify your answer? A – b/c it has more loops B – b/c it has more loops B – b/c it has fewer loops A – b/c it has a stronger battery Review Question #1 Which are examples of daily uses for an electromagnet? Door bells Telescope Cell phones MRI machines

2 Monday March 18th 2019 Learning Goal:
Students will understand that different factors can affect the strength of an electromagnet. Success Criteria: I can design a proper science experiment with IV, DV, and constants. I can demonstrate that the number of wire coils affects the strength of an electromagnet. I can explain how electric current does not affect the magnetic field.

3 Tuesday March 19th 2019 Review Question #2
Which of the following best describes what happens if you increase the number of coils in a wire? Wire burns up. Magnetic field gets bigger Magnet’s loses strength. Magnetic field reverses poles. Review Question #2 After his experiment, which two were Oersted’s conclusion? Magnetism & electricity are related Magnetism can only exist through the presence of electricity. Electricity can only be generated through a magnet. Electrical current produces magnetic fields.

4 Tuesday March 19th 2019 Learning Goal:
Students will review electromagnets in prep for their CFA tomorrow. Success Criteria: I can explain how electric currents produce magnetic fields. I can describe how to build an electromagnet using battery, magnetic core and wire leads. I can explain how to strengthen an electromagnet.

5 Wednesday March 20th 2019 TEST DAY

6 Wednesday March 20th 2019 Learning Goal:
Success Criteria: I can explain how electric currents produce magnetic fields. I can describe how to build an electromagnet using battery, magnetic core and wire leads. I can explain how to strengthen an electromagnet. I can tell Oersted’s experiments & his conclusions. I can differentiate between insulators & conductors. I can determine the charge of an atom. Wednesday March 20th 2019 Learning Goal: Students will show mastery knowledge of electromagnets.

7 Thursday March 21st 2019 No Bellwork

8 Thursday March 21st 2019 Learning Goal:
Success Criteria: I can explain how electric currents produce magnetic fields. I can describe how to build an electromagnet using battery, magnetic core and wire leads. I can explain how to strengthen an electromagnet. I can tell Oersted’s experiments & his conclusions. I can differentiate between insulators & conductors. I can determine the charge of an atom. Thursday March 21st 2019 Learning Goal: Students will show mastery knowledge of electromagnets.

9 Friday March 22nd 2019 Name one (1) thing you’ll do over spring break that will involve an electromagnet, motor, or generator. Example: My family and I are going to the beach. My dad’s driving his car, which has a “motor”! “Igloos” it together!!! Friday Dad Joke: How does a penguin build it’s house

10 Friday March 22nd 2019 Learning Goal:
Success Criteria: I can explain how motors use electromagnets. I can explain how generators use electromagnets. I can differentiate between motors & generators. Learning Goal: Students will know the difference between motors & generators.
