Study Group on Cardiovascular Involvement in Inflammatory Arthritis (CVIIA)
The Study Group aims to: organise and present a systematic literature review of the existing data; develop a database of a large international, multicentre cohort of RA and SpA patients to be compiled by all participating centres; assess the value of clinical symptoms and objective findings (including imaging and laboratory markers) and create a diagnostic algorithm for patients, who are clinically suspicious for early cardiovascular involvement organise long-term projects with patients diagnosed with RA and SpA associated with cardiovascular involvement in order to document the natural process of the disease, including the best treatment practices. identify factors that may be able to predict the development of this comorbidity Investigate, if the disease is conditioned by a genetic predisposition. investigate the effect of biological agents and small molecules The EULAR CVIIA Study group consists of rheumatologists, cardiologists, physiotherapists and patients, who have scientific interest in the diagnosis and management of CVIIA The aim is to investigate the clinical presentation and necessary procedures for the early diagnosis of cardiovascular involvement in patients affected by inflammatory arthritis, to identify the most appropriate treatment of traditional risk factors, and to determine the favourable or unfavourable role of medication It is still not clear, which pathophysiologic mechanisms underlie the relationship between systemic inflammation and increased CV risk, as none of the many proposed hypotheses has yet been fully confirmed. Until now, the group has set up a research agenda covering all aspects of the aims of the group. The projects are ongoing / being planned Publications: Nurmohamed, M.T., et al.
