Why did Paul write this Response to something that had happened.
A lot of emotion Deeply affected by what had happened. Certain criticisms of his character and actions. His integrity had been challenged. Paul said one thing in his letters but actually meant something else.

The Message Verse 17 “Are you now going to accuse me of being flip with my promises because it didn’t work out? Do you think I talk out of both sides of my mouth – a glib yes one moment, a glib no the next?” “Well you’re wrong. I try to be as true to my word as God is to His. Our word to you wasn’t a careless yes cancelled by an indifferent no. How could it be? When Silas, Timothy and I proclaimed the Son of God among you, did you pick up on any yes-and-no, on-again, off-again waffling. Wasn’t it a clean, strong Yes?”

A Brief Detour Verse 20 God never changes His plans
Every promise God makes, He keeps Context = the Gospel and in Jesus God has anointed us, He has sealed us, and put the Spirit in our hearts as a deposit. These things, for a believer, are guaranteed. Nothing and no one can change this.

You and me? Theme I must rejoice! Comfort in the midst of suffering! The integrity of a Christian, a minster of the Gospel, is very important. What do we do when our plans don’t happen? God’s Word is always yes and amen in Jesus Christ

You and me? Church discipline
In obedience to God’s Word, Out of love for the offender, To keep Satan out of the church and The goal is always restoration. Once discipline is complete there must be forgiveness and an outpouring of love so that Satan gains no foothold in the church.

We work together alongside each other. The goal is joy for us all for the glory of God.
