4 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” 1 Peter 1:13-16 13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

“Be Holy, For I Am Holy” Followers of Christ are expected to be holy. What does it mean to “be holy”?

7 45 Then, in the hearing of all the people, He said to His disciples,
“Be Holy, For I Am Holy” Luke 20:45-47 45 Then, in the hearing of all the people, He said to His disciples, 46 "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, 47 "who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."

8 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” Matthew 23:25-26 25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. 26 "Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also."

9 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” “Holy” The word that is translated as “holy” in the New Testament (Gr. hagios) means “set apart for God, to be, as it were, exclusively his…in a moral sense, pure, sinless, upright, holy” (J.H. Thayer, Greek-English Lexicon, 7).

10 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” “Holy” “…fundamentally signifies ‘separated’ (among the Greeks, dedicated to the gods), and hence, in Scripture in its moral and spiritual significance, separated from sin and therefore consecrated to God, sacred” (W.E. Vine, Expository Dictionary, 307).

11 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” 1 John 1:5-6 5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

12 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” Romans 12:1-2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

17 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy”

18 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words

19 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words Titus 2:7-8 7 …in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.

20 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words Colossians 4:6 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

21 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words Matthew 12:34 34 "Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks."

22 In Our Words Ephesians 5:3-4
“Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words Ephesians 5:3-4 3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

23 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words Ephesians 4:29 29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

24 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words Matthew 12:36-37 36 "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

25 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy”

26 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Actions

27 In Our Actions “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” 1 Peter 2:11-12
11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

28 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Actions Matthew 5:16 16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

29 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Actions Titus 2:11-12 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,

30 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Actions Titus 2:13-14 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

31 In Our Actions “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

32 In Our Actions 1 Corinthians 6:11
“Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Actions 1 Corinthians 6:11 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

33 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy”

34 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship

35 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship John 4:23-24 23 "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

36 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship Hebrews 13:15 15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

37 In Our Worship Leviticus 10:1-2
“Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship Leviticus 10:1-2 1 Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. 2 So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

38 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship Leviticus 10:3 3 And Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke, saying: 'By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.'" So Aaron held his peace.

39 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship Mark 7:6-7 6 He answered and said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"

40 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship Mark 7:8-9 8 "For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men -- the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do." 9 He said to them, "All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition."

41 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Worship 2 John 9 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

42 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” 2 Corinthians 6:17-7:1 17 Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you." 18 "I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty." 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

43 “Be Holy, For I Am Holy” In Our Words. In Our Actions. In Our Worship.

44 Are you living a holy life???
