Threats: unintentional mortality through predator control measures (i.e. misidentified as a predator of livestock during night hunts; gin traps and cage traps often trap or kill bfcs, hunting dogs often kill bfcs, etc.); removal of juveniles and adults from the wild to keep as pets; road kills land degradation, causing lower prey densities, loss of habitat no legislative protection; (intensive control of jackals may positively affect bfc survival) Global Red Data status Vulnerable Suggested Namibian Red Data status Vulnerable Actions Landowner assistance, support and co-operation; Education; black-footed cat custodian programme e.g. assist farmers to practice predator-friendly control measures
