4
Addition
5
Add numbers with 3 digits
Year 3 Add numbers with 3 digits
6
Reinforce addition from Year 2 using concrete
resources to add ones, tens and hundreds. ‘Cherry’ method is used to partition and add.

11
Move straight onto compact method
Move straight onto compact method. When renaming, the number is carried directly above the number. Some children may prefer to carry on or below the line instead.
12
Add numbers with more than 4 digits
Year 5 & 6 Add numbers with more than 4 digits
14
Subtraction
15
Subtract numbers with 3 digits
Year 3 Subtract numbers with 3 digits
19
Subtract numbers with 4 digits
Year 4 Subtract numbers with 4 digits
21
When renaming, the number is crossed out
and rewritten directly above.
22
Subtract numbers with more than 4 digits
Year 5 & 6 Subtract numbers with more than 4 digits

Multiply 2-digits by a single digit number
Year 3 Multiply 2-digits by a single digit number
26
Times Tables Year 3 Expectations
Count from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50,100 Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables
29
Partitioning can also be
shown using the ‘cherry’ method.
30
Move onto column method
Move onto column method. When regrouping, write on top of the next digit.
31
Year 4 Multiply 2 and 3-digit numbers by a single digit, using all tables up to 12x12
32
Times Tables Year 4 Expectations Count from 0 in multiples of
6, 7, 9, 25, 1000 Recall and use multiplication and division facts for all times tables to 12 x 12
35
Multiply numbers up to /more than 4 digits (also including decimals)
Year 5 & 6 Multiply numbers up to /more than 4 digits (also including decimals)
38
Division
39
Year 3 Divide 2-digit numbers by a single digit number (where there is no remainder in the answer)
42
Divide up to 3-digit numbers by a single digit
Year 4 Divide up to 3-digit numbers by a single digit
43
Partitioning Chunking
44
Continue to introduce short written method,
commonly known as the ‘bus stop’ method.
45
Year 5 & 6 Divide at least 4 digits by single digit numbers (and 2 digit numbers in Year 6)
47
