4 Mission of the NP and PA programs
To educate health care professionals to deliver care as a member of a healthcare team and to improve the availability of culturally relevant primary health care to underserved populations throughout CA.

5 Evolution of UC Davis NP and PA programs
1970-Began as FNP program at UC Berkeley School of Public Health 1972- Moved to UC Davis campus 1977- Cooperative agreement with Stanford’s PA program to educate both NP & PA 1982 – Separated from Stanford 1991 – Partnered with CSUS to offer master’s degree 2012 – Approval for UC Davis master’s degrees 2013 – Integration into Betty Irene Moore SON 2015 – First class of Betty Irene Moore SON master’s degree NP and PA graduates

Quality improvement research activities Clinical rotations at community sites Over 350 unique clinical sites with an emphasis on rural counties including Humboldt, San Joaquin, Fresno, Tulare, and Butte.

9 Required Clinical Rotation Experiences
FNP Students - 18 wks of Clinical Rotations Primary Care: Pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, women’s health, family care PA Students - 34 wks of Full-Time Clinical Rotations Internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics, women’s health, mental health Acute Care: Emergency medicine, inpatient medicine, and surgery

10 Becoming a clinical rotation site for NP and PA students
Minimum Requirements to be a Clinical Rotation Site Approval from clinical site administration One or more NP, PA, MD, or DO Preceptor(s) interested and available to have students 2-6 weeks of preceptor availability for one Student Initial Site Establishment Clinical Site Legal Agreement Preceptor(s) complete and return application UC Davis School of Nursing leads effort to coordinate logistics

11 The Need: Physician Shortage
New research shows increasing physician shortages in both primary and specialty care The United States could see a shortage of up to 120,000 physicians by 2030, impacting patient care across the nation, according to new data published today by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges). The report, The Complexities of Physician Supply and Demand: Projections from , updates and aligns with estimates conducted in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and shows a projected shortage of between 42,600 and 121,300 physicians by the end of the next decade.

12 Advanced Practice Providers
Employment of physician assistants is projected to grow 37 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. As demand for healthcare services grows,physician assistants will be needed to provide care to patients.
