1 Parent Meeting Class of 2014
November 15, 2011

2 Our Purpose At Walker Valley we believe that we work in cooperation with the student and the parent in order to form a partnership that will benefit each student. Our goal is to see each student graduate from Walker Valley with a solid educational foundation under their feet.

3 The Future The ultimate goal for each student is high school graduation. High school is one step in life we must work to prepare your child for life after high school. The way we look at education and why we need to make changes in the way educational services are delivered is important. Jobs of the future will require more than a high school diploma.

4 What Lies Ahead

5 Academics At this time your child should have at least credits. If they have less than this they put themselves in danger of not being able to graduate on time with their class. How to Graduate with an Honors Diploma: Students who score at or above all of the subject area readiness benchmarks on the ACT (or equivalent score on the SAT) will graduate with honors. ACT College Readiness Benchmark Scores: English – Mathematics – 22 Reading – 21 Science – 24 College Readiness Benchmark Scores for the ACT represent median test scores that are predictive of student success in relevant college courses. “Success” is defined as a 50 percent or higher probability of earning a B or higher in the corresponding college course or courses.

6 Credit Recovery Availability

In order to help you keep up we established a Parent Portal for you to check grades and attendance. If you are unsure of your username and/or password, please contact Patty Phillips at Bradley County Schools Central Office at

12 What is our purpose? We want to give your child every opportunity to graduate. We want to communicate with you on a regular basis. Please watch our website daily for announcements etc.
