1418- Henry the Navigator- first to develop school for mariners--- exploration of the world sponsored by country
Spanish, in competitive spirit, join in.

As with America and Europe– extensive trade routes
Labor more valued than land (obviously different from Europe)
Exchange begins- European technology for slave labor

8. The Atlantic World Connected
1492…Spanish Isabella and Ferdinand authorized Italian-born mariner Christopher Columbus to make contact with “the lands of India.”
Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria reach Hispaniola (island) in about two months

9. Next lesson Europe colonizes the “New World.”
That would be the Spanish, the English, and the French.
