2nd – 6th Rockstars Mahaney August 19 - 23 Killebrew Rogers
2nd and 3rd Grade Literacy - This week we are continuing to work on our "Read to Self" station and improve stamina. We are reviewing and modeling appropriate behaviors for working independently. Ask you child one reason they like to read! 2nd Grade Science - I Can Statements I can identify examples of everyday products made from natural resources. I can explain what fossil fuels are, and how they are used. 3rd Grade Science - I Can Statements I can classify animals based on symmetry. I can explore the characteristics of an animal. 2nd Grade Math - I can use place-value charts to read, write, compare, and order numbers to 1,000. I can also count on by 10s, 100s, and 1,000's and identify number patterns. 3rd Grade Math - I can count, read, and write numbers to 10,000, read and write numbers in different ways, and compare and order numbers. 2nd Grade Social Studies - I can locate the continents and oceans and describe some important features of the South American continent. 3rd Grade Social Studies - I can label the continents and oceans. I can also explain how the Ice Age people of Beringia lived. 4th Grade Social Studies I can recite Kentucky's motto, bird, tree, wild animal, and flower, and identify the title of our state song. August Weekly Reminders Make sure you wear or bring tennis shoes on days you have P.E. No School – September 2nd All 4th Grade students please remember to return the 2 required permission forms to attend the Farm Safety Field Trip. Eagle Outlet opens this week! Rogers 4th & 5th Grade Literacy – We will continue to learn and master the basic skills of the Daily 5 & CAFÉ. As we start our second week with this new program we will increase our stamina of Read to Self for 10 minutes. I will also be introducing the station, Work on Writing, where we will create an “I Can” chart of the behavior we would see while students are working on writing skills. Students will model the correct and incorrect ways to independently learn within this station.

Linder This past week has been fantastic. We have been placing ourselves on number lines. Actually, we have been working really hard to convert fractions to decimals so that we can compare them and put them in order. We will be working on Prime Factorization. We will be doing Drops in the Bucket weekly. We will check these each Friday. Be sure and check your child's agenda for Math homework. Thanks for all you do to help your child at home. Wells Crowder Thanks students and parents for another rockin' week at A.T. In 5th grade Social Studies, we will finish up our study of US geography. Students will also examine the Native American migration routes and how they adapted to the environments they lived in. In 6th grade Social Studies, students will continue to study the culture through the five themes of geography. Fifth grade math classes continue working with place value. We will add working with expanded form and comparing numbers. We will also begin looking at patterns toward the end of the week. Math- In Math this week, we are comparing and ordering numbers to 100,000 identifying how much more or less one number is than another number and finding the rule to our number patterns. Science- This week in Science we will study animal and plant adaptations. Bowen Science - Science classes will be learning about matter and cells. We've tested this week over the scientific method. Ask your child what a hypothesis is! Writing - Writing classes are going well. Are study of the six traits has helped us with sentence fluency and finding our writers voices! Rice Writer's Workshop: We are looking at different ways to make our writing better. We will begin an original writing in a couple of weeks. Daily Five Literacy: We are building our stamina in our "read to self" component. Today we added our second component, "Work On Writing“ I am looking forward to what this year has in store. Rock On!
