Prepared Graduate Competency
Prepared Graduate Competencies are the P-12 concepts and skills that all students leaving the Colorado education system must have to ensure success in a postsecondary and workforce setting. Standards Standards are the topical organization of an academic content area. Grade Level Expectations Expectations articulate, at each grade level, the concepts and skills of a standard that indicates a student is making progress toward being ready for high school. What do students need to know? High School Expectations Expectations articulate the concepts and skills of a standard that indicates a student is making progress toward being a prepared graduate. Evidence Outcomes Evidence outcomes are the indication that a student is meeting an expectation at the mastery level. How do we know that a student can do it? High School P-8 21st Century & Readiness Skills Inquiry: Students actively observe and question, investigate, formulate evidence-based explanations, communicate and justify explanations, and reflect & refine ideas. Application of the Discipline in Society: Students demonstrate knowledge, skills, and concepts in real-world, relevant contexts. Nature of the Discipline: Students understand the characteristics innate to the discipline Inquiry Application of the Discipline in Society Nature of the Discipline Students understand the characteristics innate to the discipline

Each group begins at one of the four designated brainstorm areas Write your group’s thoughts about the state referent as they apply to Colorado’s standards revision After 3-5 minutes you will rotate to the next brainstorm area When you have finished the four areas we will regroup

In and Out Activity Purpose: P-8 9-12

In and Out Activity 1st Round:
In grade level groups (PK-5, 6-8, 9-12): Using the current Colorado document, your knowledge and the research: K-8 Design backwards the 8 concepts students must have leaving a grade level “out” – the leaving expectations should be the ins for the next grade. Also design an “in” for 6th & 9th HS-Refine prepared graduate competencies, draft purpose statements for PE and Health, write examples of Readiness Skills
