1 Subcommittee 7 Spectrum Etiquette
Vladimir Bazhanov, Chair May 3rd, 2019

2 Subcommittee 7 Scope Subcommittee 7 develops standards addressing spectrum etiquettes, wireless coexistence and related standards to provide new or amended measurement techniques, protocols or methods and associated instrumentation and operational constraints supporting more efficient spectrum utilization, including dynamic spectrum access. Approved by the subcommittee on May 2nd, 2019

3 SC7 Membership Chair: Vladimir Bazhanov Vice Chair: Stephen Berger
Term expires 12/31/2021 Vice Chair: Stephen Berger Secretary: Allen Crumm 17 members 3 members at risk (red)

4 Subcommittee 7 Duties C63.17 – American National Standard for Methods of Measurement of the Electromagnetic and Operational Compatibility of Unlicensed Personal Communications Services (UPCS) Devices C63.27 – American National Standard for Evaluation of Wireless Coexistence

5 C63.17 Scope: Revision of IEEE Std C Specific test procedures are established for verifying the compliance of unlicensed personal communications services (UPCS) devices with applicable regulatory requirements regarding radio-frequency (RF) emission levels and spectrum access procedures Status: Reaffirmation ballot out, due back May 15th, 2019

6 C63.27 Scope: During the development of C63.27, items were deferred to future versions to focus on establishing test methods and provide some technology specific guidance….Items under consideration for version 2 include: Wi-Fi/LTE guidance, improvements to the estimation of likelihood-of-coexistence, and improvements to the test methods to help ensure repeatability. Status: Under revision

7 C63.27 Working Group Actively looking for opportunities to present, educate, and answer questions about coexistence testing IEEE EMC Symposium workshop presentation Involvement in future C63 wireless workshops Developing an FAQ for publication

8 Proposed Changes – Annex A
Improve Annex A by incorporating the following: Emphasize the iterative test philosophy of C63.27 in the overview section. Harmonize the summary of each section with the specifications provided in the corresponding subsections. Clarify channel utilization of unintended signals. Expand scope to cover LTE-LAA EUTs and unintended signals.

9 C63.27 Updates – Likelihood of Coexistence
Clarified the discussion of Likelihood of Coexistence by creating an Annex that consolidates information into a single place. Significantly expanded the framework that can be used to calculate LOC. Two separate methods Measurements-based Model-based Even with revisions, still a difficult problem

10 C63.27 Timeline New contributions due July 1st
Editorial changes and working group review July/August SC2/SC3 review – August-September Submit to subcommittee for review September – October Goal: ready for subcommittee vote at next in-person meeting

11 Single motion to: Approve the subcommittee scope
Annual approval required Approve the subcommittee membership roster Approve the subcommittee duties

12 Summary Scope and membership roster reviewed
C63.17 is being reaffirmed Reaffirmation ballot due May 15th, 2019 C63.27 is being revised Numerous technical additions, improved guidance and readability Goal: ready for subcommittee vote by November meeting
