Mid-Year 2018 APS Pre-K PALS Summary
This table shows information on all APS Pre-K programs as of January 2018

STEP 1: Describe the data.
*There are more red data points in the fall 2017 than in winter 2018 *One student does not have data for fall 2017, and two students do not have data for winter 2018 *Some students have more red data points than others What do you see? Avoid making judgements about the quality or interpretations of the data. Fall 2017 Winter 2018 Student 1 Student 2 Student 3 Student 4 Student 5 Student 6 Student 7 Student 8 Student 9 Student 10 Student 11 Student 12 Student 13 Student 14 Student 15 Student 16 Student 17 Student 18 Teachers may say: There are more red data points in the fall 2017 than in winter 2018 Some students have many red data points in both the winter and the fall Some students have more red data points than others At least one student is showing developmental growth on all domains

What do you see in YOUR data?
Using your classroom data, answer #1 on the data dig organizer.
6
STEP 2: Interpret the data for strengths.
In the Name-writing domain, you can see in Fall 2017, 10 students were outside the developmental range, but in Winter 2018, only 4 students were outside of this range A similar trend can be seen with the Lower-case Alphabet domain Most students are on target for beginning sounds awareness but 4 students are at 0. Which domains are most or many students showing on or above average growth? Fall 2017 Winter 2018 Looking at the name-writing domain, you can see in Fall 2017, 10 students were outside the developmental range, but in Winter 2018, only 4 students were outside of this range Similar trends with Lower-case alphabet There are more areas of strength in the data than these two

What do you see in YOUR data?
Using your classroom data, answer #2 on the data dig organizer.

STEP 3: Interpret the data for areas of need.
Which domains are most or many students showing no or below average growth? Many students fall below developmental range in nursery rhyme awareness both in Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 More students fall below developmental range in rhyme awareness in Fall 2017 than in Winter 2018 4 students scored a 0 in beginning sound awareness 6 students are below developmental range in print & word awareness Fall 2017 Winter 2018 Many students fall below developmental range in nursery rhyme awareness both in Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 More students fall below developmental range in rhyme awareness in Fall 2017 than in Winter 2018

What do you see in YOUR data?
Using your classroom data, answer #3 on the data dig organizer.

STEP 4: Interpret the data for student spotlights.
Which students have shown little to no growth from fall to winter, and in which domains? Which students have shown above average growth, and in which domains? Student 3 fell below developmental range in 7 out of 8 domains in both Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 Student 16 went from below developmental range in 7 out of 8 domains, to below range in only 4 domains. (showed growth in 3 domains) Student 12 and Student 5 scored a 0 in 4 domains Fall 2017 Winter 2018 Sharnesia Frasier fell below developmental range in both Fall 2017 and Winter 2018 Amiya Whatley went from below developmental range in 7 out of 8 domains, to below range in only 4 domains. (showed growth in 3 domains)

What do you see in YOUR data?
Using your classroom data, answer #4 on the data dig organizer.

STEP 5: Implications for Classroom Practice
What steps could be taken next to increase student growth in the ‘areas of need’ domains? What strategies can be used to reach the students who need more support? Areas of Need Rhyme Awareness - Nursery Rhyme Awareness - Print & Word Awareness - Beginning Letter Sounds ( 4 students) -
